Laboratory

CSIRO Moon Base

CSIRO Pullenvale Campus – QCAT

Venn Constructions are grateful for the opportunity to assist researchers at the CSIRO Technology and Space Department by constructing their Moon Base and Control Centre. Recreation of the moon's surface takes place in the Moon Base, while advanced robotics navigating the terrain are viewed and monitored from the Control Centre. Venn Constructions designed and constructed the facility from the initial client briefing through to completion. All in all, this was an exciting and fulfilling project to be involved in.

Energy Test Library

Hawken Building, UQ St Lucia

Refurbishment of an existing computer laboratory into a state-of-the-art energy test lab, including testing equipment, teaching space and collaborative meeting space. The new facility was designed to enable future students to develop the skills needed to participate successfully in the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0).

Gas Laboratory

CSIRO Pullenvale

Venn Constructions were the successful tenderer to construct the new gas testing laboratory at the CSIRO Pullenvale site. The new structure was built within a large existing shed. Although the facility has a relatively small footprint, it was a considerably involved construction incorporating heavy structural steel works with a mezzanine floor above. An intricate gas supply panel and extraction system was installed together with all necessary safety equipment. All joinery and cabinetry for the project was constructed in our fully equipped Capalaba workshop.

Genomics Laboratory

UQ Gatton Campus

When Venn Constructions were approached to design and construct a complete building refurbishment at the University of Queensland Gatton Campus for animal genomics services company Neogen/Geneseek, we grasped the challenge with both hands. From the initial client briefing, Venn Constructions provided a full scope, specification and detailed construction and services plans before proceeding with the works. The first obstacle was removing all asbestos-containing materials and stripping the building back to its bare bones. Construction and fitout of the laboratories, amenities and office spaces then began, based on Office of the Gene Technology Regulator guidelines for a PC1 facility—and the end result speaks for itself.

HDR Computer Lab

UQ General Purpose South Building, St Lucia

Refurbishment of an existing data centre into a new higher degree research computer laboratory facility. Emphasis was placed on acoustics, with walls, ceilings and floors needing to meet the required sound levels and Rw values set out by the acoustic engineer.

University of Queensland Zebra Fish PC2 Laboratory Fitout

St Lucia

Venn Constructions completed the fit-out of a PC2 laboratory at the University of Queensland, incorporating two laboratory spaces and the installation of specialised operational equipment. A project of this nature required extensive planning, clear communication, close attention to detail, and strong collaboration between consultants, subcontractors, and the project team. Through careful coordination and professional delivery, the team completed a high-quality laboratory environment designed to support specialised research operations. The finished project is another result Venn Constructions is proud to have delivered for the University of Queensland.

Forgan Smith Tower, Level 4 – Ramsay Centre, The University of Queensland

Venn Constructions is proud to have delivered the Level 4 refurbishment of the Forgan Smith Tower for the Ramsay Centre at The University of Queensland. The project involved a complete strip-out of the existing ceilings and partitions, followed by a full reconfiguration of the office and amenity spaces. Works included a new ceiling grid, set-plaster and feature waffle-grid ceilings, acoustic and glazed partitions, custom joinery, upgraded hydraulics and electrical services, and quality finishes throughout to create a bright, modern workspace for the University.

Mayne Medical School

Mayne Medical School, Herston

Over the course of several years, Venn Constructions were employed by the University of Queensland to refurbish the external façade of the heritage-listed Mayne Medical School at Herston. Following the guidelines of the Arts and Heritage Department, we systematically removed, repaired and reinstated all external windows. Works also included new copper roofing and parapets matching the existing styles, rendered sill repairs and recoating the external façade with lime wash. In our fully equipped Capalaba workshop, our qualified joiners reconstructed several windows and doors significantly damaged by time, retaining and repairing as much original fabric as possible and matching new materials to the existing building.

Steele Building

Steele Building, UQ St Lucia

When Venn Constructions were asked by the University of Queensland to repair a severely white-ant-damaged set of exit doors on the Steele Building at St Lucia, we knew from past experience what was involved. The Steele Building lies within the Great Court precinct and works to the exterior required Heritage Approval through the Department of Environment and Science. With the assistance of an experienced heritage architect, the application was submitted and approved and the works commenced. In our fully equipped Capalaba workshop, our qualified joiners reconstructed the entire door frame and doors to the exact detail of the original 1959 construction. The heritage guidelines were followed throughout, retaining and repairing as much original fabric as possible and matching all new materials to the existing building.

Train Carriage Yumantra Fitout

UQ St Lucia – MacGregor Forecourt

The project commenced with the retrieval and transportation of the train carriage from the holding yard at Yatala and placement at its new location on the University of Queensland St Lucia campus. We connected all necessary underground services, fabricated and installed the front awning, then completed the commercial kitchen and restaurant fitout for Yumantra. From start to finish, this project had its challenges, but the final outcome is certainly something we can all be proud of.

AEB Office Extension

AEB Building, UQ St Lucia

Venn Constructions were the successful tenderer to complete the office extension on Level 4 of the Advanced Engineering Building at UQ St Lucia. The scope was to construct two additional offices and match the exact detail of the existing office partitions and fitout, which was predominantly solid timber and glass.

Alexandra Hills State School Toilet Block Refurbishment

Alexandra Hills

Venn Constructions successfully completed the refurbishment of the toilet block facilities at Alexandra Hills State School, delivering a high-quality upgrade designed to improve functionality, durability, and the overall user experience. The project involved a comprehensive internal refurbishment, including the safe demolition and removal of asbestos-containing materials (ACM), followed by the construction and installation of new partitions, ceilings, structural steel, decorative metal screening, and blockwork. Our team delivered complete hydraulic and electrical upgrades, incorporating new water, waste and sewer services, together with modern lighting and power installations. The refurbishment also included custom joinery and cabinetry, washroom partition systems, floor preparation with levelling and epoxy coatings, painting, and the supply and installation of furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E). Working within an active school environment, Venn Constructions carefully planned and coordinated each stage of the project to minimise disruption while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and workmanship. The completed facility provides students and staff with a modern, functional, and durable amenity that will serve the school for years to come.

CSIRO Pullenvale Campus

Refurbishment of the existing male and female changeroom facilities. Works included new full-height wall tiling, all new fixtures and fittings, plus custom lockers.

Free Range Kids Kitchen

UQ Gatton Campus

When the staff at the Free Range Kids Childcare Centre on the UQ Gatton campus needed more space to cook healthy and nutritious meals for the children, they approached Venn Constructions. With a tight budget and limited time, we combined the existing storeroom and old kitchen into one larger, more functional space.

Fryer Library

Duhig Tower Building, UQ St Lucia

In 2018, Venn Constructions were the successful tenderers selected to complete the new rare book display within the Fryer Library at the University of Queensland. The project included a dedicated section of teaching space which allowed staff to focus on student learning and engagement. Solid timber, custom-made handcrafted joinery made up the majority of the works, giving the space a warm and inviting atmosphere. The selected species of timber was Queensland Maple, sourced locally from Kirby Timbers on the Sunshine Coast. The plantation timber was originally planted around the late 1930s in the Amamoor District, Queensland, and initially harvested around 2012.

Michie Writing Studio

Michie Building, UQ St Lucia

When Venn Constructions were approached to design and construct a writing studio and podcast room for the School of Communication and Arts at the University of Queensland St Lucia campus, we jumped at the chance. From the initial briefing to determine the client's exact requirements and budget, Venn Constructions provided a full scope, specification and detailed construction and services plans before proceeding with the works. The project was an extremely satisfying experience. It involved a considerable amount of custom-made solid timber joinery, which our qualified joiners relished, and allowed our design team to let their imagination run wild.

University of Queensland Oral Health Centre Set Down Area Shelter

Herston

Venn Constructions was engaged to deliver the construction of a new free-standing shelter adjoining the pedestrian set down area at the University of Queensland Oral Health Centre. The project involved the complete supply of labour, materials, plant, and equipment to construct the shelter in accordance with the University's plans and specifications. Careful planning and site management were essential to ensure the works were completed safely and efficiently within an operational healthcare environment. A key focus throughout construction was the protection of the existing surroundings. Our team implemented measures to prevent damage to the adjacent paved surfaces, retained kerbing, and significant heritage trees while maintaining safe pedestrian access and minimising disruption to the facility. The completed shelter provides a durable, functional, and aesthetically integrated structure that enhances the accessibility and usability of the pedestrian set down area while meeting the University's quality and performance requirements.
